The Current Special Exhibition in the „Haus der Natur“ in Salzburg (Natural History Museum).
This exhibition builds a visual bridge between two mighty mountain ranges: life in the mountains there and here is different but still the same. Working the fields, crafts and trades, daily chores, religious symbols are different but still the same.
A juxtaposition of photographic motives illustrates the harsh conditions for survival at inhospitable elevations which the Alpine inhabitants faced before the rapid changes brought on by modernisation and which are still a reality for Himalayan people.
Another part of the exhibition presents development projects by EcoHimal in Nepal, Tibet and Pakistan. Several boards show how the project encourages the local villagers to take the development of their region into their own hands.
But the parallels are not limited to human aspects: even animal and plant life show surprising analogies. Alps – Himalayas: different but still the same.
You are cordially invited to visit this special exhibition!
The Natural History Museum is located in the centre of Salzburg, Museumsplatz 5.
