Mountaineering School Thame
In order to develop sustainable and profitable tourism services
in harmony with the local environment and culture, qualified training
is of utmost importance. Part of this training takes place in Thame
where a training center with climbing
facilities has been established.
Since 1998, training courses to
improve the qualifications of Nepalese trekking guides and high-altitude
sherpas are being conducted on a regular basis.The courses are to
improve the safety of mountaineering
ventures in the Himalaya for trekking guides and high-altitude sherpas.
The focus is on practical and theoretical training
in rock and ice, particular rescue
techniques and skills together with first-aid
training and the understanding
of the ecological effects of tourism in high-altitude regions.
Since 1999, the 'Female Outdoor Leadership
Training' a special progam for female trekking guides has
also been added.
Eco Himal's partners in this project are: NMA , Nepalese Mountaineering
Association, TAAN, Trekking Agents Association Nepal, KEEP , Kathmandu
Environment Educational Program, Nepal, and ALPINSCHULE Bergspechte,
Linz, Austria.
