of new cultural technologies in a socially-balanced way.
Consequently, Eco Himal supports
Nepal's first private radio station, "Radio
Sagarmatha", a not-for-profit radio with a public mission.

In a country where more than 60% of the population cannot read
or write, the radio is the medium of choice for providing information,
entertainment and education to a broad public. Independent media
are one of the prerequisites for a functioning democracy.
The program features topics relevant to the communities in the
Kathmandu valley and beyond and aims at raising awareness for public
issues. One major campaign focuses on
waste prevention and disposal.
The Austrian funds are used for purchasing technical equipment,
financing training courses for journalists and investments in program
quality.
