Our Work in Tibet
The political situation in Tibet renders Eco Himal's work there
difficult. Together with Tibetan partners we carry out projects
in remote areas where infrastructural development is far behind
more urbanized areas
Elementary School
Program 90% of the rural population in Tibet are illiterate. For
many children in remote areas as well as children from nomad families,
schooling is unavailable. Distances are too far and many parents
cannot afford boarding fees. The construction and furnishing of
schools is an important contribution to development aid
Restoration of
Monasteries
Tibetan monasteries have always been more than just religious
centres, they provided health services and education for the local
people. Restoring monasteries helps to strengthen the cultural
identity of the Tibetans .
Medical Services
Large portions of the Tibetan population have no access to medical
treatment due to a lack of hospitals and health posts. Patients
have to be transported over long distances which means that in
some cases medical attention comes too late. Building hospitals
in remote areas should alleviate this hardship...
Promoting the Local
Economy
A textile manufacturing plant in Chideshol where carpets and fabrics
are produced by traditional methods urgently needs to be modernized
in order to maintain and create jobs for the local population
Relief Program
for Nomads
The nomads of Tibet suffering from the effects of a severe winter
received fast emergency help: they were supplied with food and
textiles and the yaks and sheep they had lost were replaced to
secure their long-term survival .
