Until 2010, EcoHimal operated in other Himalayan countries as well. We have constructed schools in Afghanistan; implemented a forestry and agriculture project in the Siran Valley/Manshera District of Pakistan; moreover, after the terrible earthquake in 2005, whose epicentre lay in our project area, we supported the local population in rebuilding their homes and livelihoods.

In Tibet our deep involvement focused particularly on the nomad areas of Nylam Province. There we financed and built two hospitals, as well as renovating several monasteries and one local textile enterprise. Between 2004 and 2008 we constructed or renovated a total of 60 local schools in various provinces, providing education to some 3000 pupils. Together with our Spanish/Belgian partner organization Comunidad Humana we invested approximately 500,000 euros in the school programme.
