Alps - Himalaya: different but still the same

From June 13 2012 to September 30 2012 the exhibition Alps – Himalaya: different but still the same - took place in Bruneck. Venue was the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa at Schloss Bruneck.

The exhibition builds a visual bridge between two mighty mountain ranges: life in the mountains there and here is different but still the same. Working in the fields, crafts and trades, daily chores and religious symbols are different but still the same.

A juxtaposition of photographic motives illustrates the harsh conditions for survival at inhospitable elevations which the Alpine inhabitants faced before the rapid changes brought on by modernisation and which are still reality for Himalayan people.

The exhibition is presented in cooperation with the Freie Universität Bozen and the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa. Within the framework of a cross-cultural project a discussion about Sherpa people in Nepal is desired.
